Lunch at India Palace
Lunch at India Palace
India Palace is still serving a "buffet" at lunch, but in these times they'll bring you a platter with all your Indian food favorites.
This midtown institution is open for lunch and dinner, with limited dine-in and of course, takeout.
Midtown Memphis Indian Food
This afternoon, I met my friend for lunch at India Palace on Poplar in Midtown. We decided to meet there because of their daily lunch buffet. The buffet is an all-you-can-eat Indian wonderland stocked with plenty of options for vegetarians and carnivores alike. The L-shaped buffet is set up in two sections. On one side, there's a salad bar with all of the usual salad fixings (and a few unlikely ones) and raita. On the other, there are steaming trays of Indian standards - chicken curry, potatoes and eggplant, Tandoori chicken, palak paneer.
I had a plateful of chicken curry, eggplant and potatoes, basmati rice, and a bowl full of cucumber and tomato slices covered in creamy yogurt sauce. The food was well-seasoned, but nothing on the buffet was super spicy. At least, not spicy enough to merit all of the ultra-attentive water refills. Even during the lunch buffet, the service at India Palace is crazy attentive - every time I took a sip of my water, a pitcher-wielding server appeared to top it off.
The restaurant is fairly large - booths line the walls (and are inexplicably lined up in the middle of the room), and there are huge murals of elephants, tigers, and the Taj Mahal. India palace has a lunch buffet during the day, and a dinner menu at night.
