Friday Afternoon at the Young Avenue Deli

I can't remember who named the Young Ave. Deli's French fries as some of the best in the country, but they were totally right. The fries at this Cooper-Young bar are almost perfect - crispy, but a little soft and seasoned with salt and pepper.

The Deli has a dual personality. It's very much a restaurant that serves sandwiches, pizzas, and a myriad of fried appetizers. Today, I had the chicken salad sandwich with a side of fries.

It's also very clearly a bar - there's a huge stage, pool and foosball tables, and a long list of beers on tap and in bottles. It's also one of the best places in the city to watch a Tigers game. Usually, there are bands on the weekends, too.

The Deli is open late, very late, and they'll deliver to a large portion of Midtown until at least midnight.
