Reasons to Love Memphis #25 - Carnival Food

Here's a good reason to love Memphis - there's a restaurant called Carnival Food that serves (you guessed it) carnival food year-round, seven days a week.

Funnel Cake from Carnival Food, Memphis, Tenn.

Carnival Food has been open for about a month and is run by a couple that also has a food truck that they take to flea markets, fairs and carnivals.

You place your order at the counter, and they bring it out to your table. The menu is fairly extensive - people at my table ordered brats, Polish sausage, a barbecue sandwich, a burger, funnel cakes, and a snow cone.

Speaking of the people at my table, a few I Love Memphis blog readers came out to keep me company:

Jancie, Jeff, Erica, Randy and Amy at Carnival Food

I had a cheeseburger and fries and fresh squeezed lemonade. The burger was thick and came with a tomato slice, some lettuce and a pickle on the side. Carnival Food has both regular fries and curly spicy fries.

The general consensus on the food was that it was tasty, but not anything super special. It was carnival food, just like you'd get at the fair.

Carnival Food is located in a former Mexican restaurant in a strip mall on Covington Pike. Seating is limited - there are only four tall folding tables and a few stools at each one. There are games on the tables (dominoes, Memory, and Monopoly).

Overall, Carnival Food is a great place to fulfill your off-season funnel cake cravings or grab an inexpensive lunch if you're in the area.

A few things to know before you go: Carnival Food delivers, but I'm not sure what their delivery area is. There's a $5 minimum for credit card purchases, and they're open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. every day.

I saw a website that stated they were open from 10a to 10p daily. I wanted to take my girlfriend here for a brunch on Valintines Day around 11 and they were closed. I saw the posted Sunday hours and they didnt open until 1pm. Thats fine with me because I know updates to websites take time. Tried to go the following Sunday in the afternoon and again they were not open for business. Ok. Sundays might be difficult day for this place of business. I do understand that the Fair was last weekend. OK, business is business! I understand that as well. Tonight, Friday the 26 before 8pm. I stopped by because I have been in need of a Turkey leg for a few weeks now, sure enough!!! CLOSED!!!!! I wish this place luck.......

I just started a concessions business at my brother's flea market in South Tipton County. Would love to swap ideas. Our big seller is my gourmet burgers. We serve them big, juicy and with a variety of toppings. I also serve Sonoran's (Mexican Hot Dogs) they've been a big hit. We also do funnel cakes. I am trying to find out anything and everything I can about the concessions/Mobile Food Service Unit industry. Please write to me.

The Carnival Food restaurant hours are 10am til 8pm on covington pike and closed on Sundays. All of they stores close 15minutes early. They just open a new one inside the Raleigh Springs Mall and that one close at 9pm hours on Sunday 1pm til 6pm. Remember all the stores close 15minutes early. The mall store hours must follow the mall schedule. This place have 8 more locations about to open up so we will have luck thanks.
