My Busy Memphis Weekend: Drive By Press, New World Henna and Bill Callahan
My Busy Memphis Weekend: Drive By Press, New World Henna and Bill Callahan
There was a ton going on in Memphis this past weekend, and I have to admit - I didn't make it out to as many things as I should have.
Friday night, I went to the Drive By Press show at Five in One.
In addition to their gallery work, the Drive By Press guys brought their huge portable printing press and woodcuts to make custom t-shirts.
They had a sweet roller skate wood cut, but it wouldn't fit on the back of my hoodie. Instead, I had Michael (from Vini) print a giant bird on the back and Joseph Velasquez from Drive By Press do some text on the front.
Saturday, I was pinned into my house by the St. Jude Memphis Marathon. I heard great things about the race from my friends that ran in the 5K and half-marathon. Congratulations to all of the runners!
On Sunday, my friend (and fellow Woman of Mass Destrcution) Beth Hendrickson came over to do some bridal mehndi style henna on my hands and feet.
Those are my feet, in progress.
Bridal mehndi takes a long time. My feet and hands together took about eight hours. While she was doing it, I chilled out, relaxed, watched a lot of Hulu and tried not to move around too much.
Here's the finished product on my hands:
If you're getting married, or just want some temporary flash for your hands and feet, I highly recommend Beth. Check out her company, New World Henna, for more details.
Last night, I took my fancy hands to the Hi-Tone to see Bill Callahan (aka Smog). It was a super mellow show. There were only about 30 people there, and it was super quiet for Bill's awesome set.
It was another great weekend in Memphis. Bring on the week!
