Harlan T. Bobo in 3D (and in space)
Shame on you if you didn’t make it out to one of Harlan T. Bobo’s Christmas shows at the Hi-Tone Cafe over the weekend.
I picked up some 3-D glasses at the door and put them on over my regular glasses. The sets were all painted in neon greens and oranges. I managed to keep the glasses on for about three minutes before I got all dizzy and took them off.
The show started at about midnight, which seemed a little late for a band with no opening act (even for the HiTone).
It was totally worth the wait, though. Harlan played a good mix of songs from his first two records, a few newer songs, and bits of some holiday classics. There were at least four costume changes and several elaborate set changes. And dangling above it all was “The Eye”, a huge, lit-from-within papier-machè eyeball.
I’m not sure when (or if) Harlan T. Bobo has a new record out soon, but in the meantime, check out his list of Christmas wishes on the Goner Blog.
