It seems like it’s been kind of cold and/or raining every other day this month. As a result, I’ve started eating like it’s mid-December – lots of bread, soup, potatoes and tea.
This afternoon, I braved the rain to get my soup fix at Noodle Doodle Do (the lunchtime version of Do Sushi in Cooper-Young). At lunch, the small restaurant is way less crowded and a little bit more affordable (most of the soups are between $7-$10). They still serve appetizers and sushi and have bento box and spring roll specials at lunch.
When I have lunch there, I usually get the chicken pho. It’s got shredded chicken, rice noodles, cilantro, mint and some veggies in a lemony broth. It’s nice and simple and mild.
Today, I had the tom kha gai soup. It had coconut milk, baby corn, lime, shredded chicken and mushrooms. It was delicous – sweet, but a spicy (though, not spicy enough to clear up my sinus infection.
It came to the table in a big silver tureen that kind of looked like a small, upside-down bundt pan with a lid. I’m not sure why it wasn’t in a regular bowl, as the bundt pan shape isn’t ideal for spoon use.
My lunch buddy had the Kobe beef curry soup. I didn’t get to try any, but he confirmed that it is as tasty as it looks.
