Reasons to Love Memphis #4 – Black Lodge Video

One of the requested items for the scavenger hunt was a "Black Lodge Video symbol outside of Black Lodge Video".

That red diamond with wings is what I was looking for:

After not too many days of keeping an eye out, I found one in the ladies room at Otherlands and took a grainy cell phone picture of it:

Over the last nine years, Black Lodge has grown to carry more than 10,000 VHS tapes and 8,000 DVDs of all genres. The guys that run it are huge film fans and if you don't know what you want or need a recommendation, they're happy to help.

One of the major strengths of the store is that the owners are selective about the films they carry. They have an extensive (and well-curated) horror section, tons of American classics, and a large selection of Memphis movies (though, if you're looking for a copy of Craig Brewer's "Poor and Hungry", you won't find it – they used to have a copy, but it was either damaged or left unreturned over the years).

Also, th's a recording studio upstairs where bands like Scandaliz Vandalistz and Unstoppable Juggernaut have recorded.

I write about what’s going on with Memphis music, food, arts, events, sports, people, and culture. Memphians love Elvis and barbeque with a passion that must be seen to be believed, but there is so much more to this place.
